Somerset College IEB Matric Results 2025

Somerset College takes pride in its unwavering commitment to academic excellence. The Class of 2025 has set a remarkable standard, achieving an average of 4.15 A symbols per student. Over the past nine years, the school has maintained an impressive average of at least 3 A symbols per student. We are also delighted and proud to uphold our unbroken record of a 100% Bachelor’s Degree pass rate, ensuring all our students have access to university opportunities.

  • Of the 75 candidates, 39 achieved an A average, 28 achieved a B average and 8 achieved a C average. United in purpose, the Class of 2025 took pride in finishing strong together, with every student achieving a C average or higher.
  • 7 students attaining an exceptional average of 90% or higher.
  • The overall average of the entire cohort is 79.41%.
  • Nearly two-thirds (58%) of all subject entries resulted in A symbols.
  • Over 80% (82.5%) of all subject entries resulted in a B symbol or higher.
  • 95% of all subject entries resulted in a C symbol or higher.

In addition, numerous students featured nationally in the upper echelons of the IEB results.

  • Nina Benson, Anna Blecha and Karla Duvengage (100% for Mathematics) received Outstanding Achievement Awards for ranking within the top 5% of all IEB candidates nationally across six or more subjects and achieving an A symbol in Life Orientation.
  • Keita Crawford-Bestelink and Ava Retief received Commendable Achievement Awards for ranking within the top 5% of all IEB candidates nationally across five subjects and an A symbol for Life Orientation.
  • Somerset College students were also awarded 32 Top 1% awards for featuring in the top 1% percent of their cohort nationally across a range of subjects. This includes 1 in Accounting; 2 in Afrikaans; 2 in English HL; 3 in History; 1 in Information Technology; 11 in Life Orientation; 2 in Life Sciences; 2 in Mathematical Literacy; 3 in Mathematics Core; 2 in Further Studies Mathematics; 2 in Physical Sciences; and 1 in Visual Art.

In all our academic departments except one, the Somerset College average was higher than the national IEB average.

Our students attained an average of over 10% higher than the national IEB average in 11 subjects. The Somerset College averages for Mathematics Core and Accounting are over 20% higher than the National Average.

We applaud the Class of 2025 for their remarkable fortitude and resilience throughout their journey. The success during their final examinations reflects the passion, dedication, expertise, professionalism, and resilience of our exceptional staff, who have consistently navigated challenges while supporting students and upholding standards of excellence. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our committed parent community, whose unwavering support for their children and the school, especially during this pivotal Grade 12 year, has been vital to this shared achievement.
