Olivia Castleden to Represent South Africa at the Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad

We are delighted to announce that Olivia Castleden (Grade 9) has been selected by the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF) to represent South Africa at the prestigious Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO), taking place in Botswana from 11–18 June.

This incredible achievement places Olivia among the country’s brightest young mathematical minds and is the result of years of curiosity, dedication and a true love for problem-solving. Her selection followed an intensive process of qualifying rounds and training through the SAMF, during which Olivia consistently demonstrated exceptional analytical thinking, creativity, and perseverance.

PAMO is Africa’s premier mathematics competition, bringing together top learners from across the continent to challenge themselves through complex mathematical problems that test logic, reasoning, and innovation. Representing South Africa on this international stage is both an honour and an opportunity to engage with peers who share her passion for mathematics.

We are immensely proud of Olivia for this outstanding accomplishment and for embodying the Somerset College spirit of excellence. Her achievement is an inspiration to fellow students and a reminder that with hard work and determination, great things are possible. Congratulations, Olivia — we wish you every success in Botswana.
