Building a Musical Legacy
Music lies at the heart of Somerset College’s vision to nurture well-rounded students through academics, sport, culture and service. Our current facilities are functional, but a dedicated Music Centre will enable us to do so much more, supporting our offerings, meeting rising demand, and aligning with our ambition to further develop music on our campus.
We envision a comprehensive campus Music Centre that will benefit all students at Somerset College, and will include:
● a professional-grade acoustic performance venue;
● multiple band room spaces;
● soundproofed teaching and practice rooms (including larger ensemble spaces for group instrumental teaching) and a recording studio;
● purpose-built classrooms for academic and ensemble use for both our Prep and Senior schools;
● space for hospitality around performance.
In line with our music-for-all philosophy, this new facility will not only support our students, but also serve the wider community. We are committed to offering two biennial Music Scholarships and expanding access to music education through initiatives such as our Saturday School programme, ensuring that music at College remains inclusive, diverse and outward-facing.
As the donor, whose children graduate in 2025, said: “Real legacy is not about a name on a wall. It’s about giving something back that will change the lives of future students.”
If you would like to be part of this legacy project, you can contribute through:
● a direct donation of any amount – every rand counts;
● sponsoring a room or venue, such as a concert hall or practice room.
