We are thrilled to share the results of this year's cricket Interschools, the Ashes, against our rivals, Parel Vallei. It has been an honour competing against them for the past 25 years, and 2024 was no exception. This year held a special significance for Somerset College as the team rallied strenuously to reclaim the Ashes, following last year's defeat. Despite encountering formidable competition, every player, coach, and manager exhibited unwavering determination, transforming each match into a gripping spectacle from commencement to conclusion.
Here are the results:
U14: T20 - Parel Vallei
U15: 50 overs - Somerset College
2nd Team: T20 - Parel Vallei
1st XI: 2-day - Somerset College
Congratulations to our 1st XI for their outstanding achievement in bringing the Ashes home. Somerset College's 1st XI delivered an impressive performance throughout and put up a formidable total of 247-8, highlighted by outstanding displays from Callum Hughes (91), Owethu Moyi (45), and Chad Ayford (30). However, the most spectacular moments unfolded during Parel Vallei's innings, as they struggled to counter our bowling attack. Tyler Crafford stole the show with a sensational spell, claiming 5 wickets for a mere 20 runs, with Chad Ayford providing crucial support with 3 wickets for just 5 runs. Parel Vallei was bowled out for 48, and follow-on was enforced. Despite Parel Vallei's resilience in their second innings, the bowling attack, spearheaded by Daniel Kaplan (6 wickets for 34 runs) and Callum Hughes (2 wickets for 21 runs), proved too much to handle. PV got bowled out for 104. Ultimately, Somerset College emerged triumphant by an innings and 94 runs, successfully reclaiming "The Ashes"! Congratulations to the team for this remarkable victory!
A heartfelt appreciation to Parel Vallei for their gracious hospitality and exemplary sportsmanship, both on and off the field. It's truly a pleasure to compete against such commendable opponents.
