NOTICE OF SECTION 24G PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESS
in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, Act 107 of 1998, as amended (NEMA), the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations of 2014, and the Section 24G Fine Regulations (Government Notice No. R. 698), for the following project:
SECTION 24G RETROSPECTIVE ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION APPLICATION FOR THE UNLAWFUL COMMENCEMENT WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF INFRASTRUCTURE WITHIN A WATERCOURSE, AND APPLICATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF NEW INFRASTRUCTURE WITHIN A WATERCOURSE, ON FARM NO. 699, SOMERSET COLLEGE, STELLENBOSCH REGISTRATION DIVISION, WESTERN CAPE
Activities unlawfully commenced with: Construction of infrastructure, within a watercourse or within 32m from a watercourse, without environmental authorisation. It is the applicant’s intention to rectify the impacts that could have been caused by the unlawful activities, by implementation of mitigation measures and implementation of an Environmental Management Programme and River Maintenance Management Plan.
Application for Authorisation: The applicant also wishes to apply for environmental authorisation for the construction of a new bridge and associated infrastructure as well as the expansion of the existing foot bride, both within the watercourse.
Location: The property is located on the Bredell Road (off the R44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West).

Opportunity to Participate: Members of the public are invited to register as interested and/or affected parties (I&APs) and/or to submit written comments on the rectification process, via e-mail or post, to Cornerstone Environmental Consultants. Any submissions by I&APs should please include the I&AP’s name, contact details (postal address and e-mail address), and an indication of any direct business, financial, personal or other interest, which they may have in the application. Only registered I&APs will be notified during the remainder of the public participation process.
Duration of registration period: I&APs have 20-days to register to participate in the public participation process, from the date of the advert, which is from Thursday, 5 December 2019 until Friday, 17 January 2020. The advert and all future public documents will be available to view on the following website: www.cornerstoneenviro.co.za.
Date of Advertisement: Thursday, 5 December 2019 in the District Mail newspaper.
