Somerset College is one of South Africa’s outstanding independent schools, recently being placed among the top-achieving schools in the IEB Matriculation examination.  The introduction of the Cambridge A-Level curriculum and the achievement of several global rankings in those results has further contributed to the success of the College. The outdoor curriculum is strong, and the renowned Trek is a 4- week outdoor adventure cherished by the Grade 9 learners.

The co-educational College, which is home to Pre-Preparatory, Preparatory and Senior Schools and two senior boarding facilities, is situated on a magnificent 32-hectare campus in the Western Cape Winelands. The Student Development Unit promotes services that contribute to the success and emotional well-being of Senior School students and offer support to those with barriers to learning.


Commencement Date: 1 July 2024


The successful candidate must:

  • experience in the educational environment with exposure to remedial support;
  • be able to implement a study skills and career guidance programme;
  • have significant experience in dealing with adolescent children and their parents;
  • have experience with assessment referrals and appropriate interventions post-assessment;
  •  be registered with the HPCSA or SACSSP and have a minimum of three years’ counselling experience;
  • be guided by professional conduct and procedures regarding confidentiality;
  • be familiar with the IEB and CIE accommodation /concession process;
  • have good interpersonal skills and proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team;
  •  have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  •  understand the Christian ethos and values of the school;
  •  have a warm and nurturing disposition.
